Hi everyone! As all of you know by now Alex has enlisted into the Army as an active duty soldier. He asked me to write this blog as a way to keep everyone updated on how he's doing. Sorry it took me so long to get it up and running.
So here's the basic run down. Alex left for Basic Combat Training on April 14, 2014. Basic Combat Training is often referred to as BCT or just Basic. I will do my best to translate all of the Army acronyms into regular speech. Alex is attending Basic at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. Fort Leonard Wood is fondly known as Fort Lost in the Woods. This was why he picked the blog name to be Lost in the Woods. Alex's Basic Training will last 10 weeks total.
The first week is called Reception. During this week everyone fills out mountains of paperwork. Alex also had an eye exam, a dental check up, and some vaccination shots.Alex attended the branch there on the base. He is required to take a "battle buddy" with him to be allowed to go to church. At the end of Reception the soldiers are split into battalions and platoons. Alex actually had a guy he met in Reception end up in his platoon.
Some funny things happened while he was at Reception. The first was that he had to call home about getting a copy of our marriage certificate. He had the original but there was one major problem with it. Our original marriage certificate is dated two days before the county actually filed it. So I got that taken care of and faxed to him. What was funny was that any time he called about a paperwork problem he would say immediately I am not in trouble! It was hilarious. He made it through Reception and is in his third week of actual training. I'll write more about his first few weeks soon.
